The Foundation of Hope Is God’s Unconditional Love Shared Through Christ

Welcome to Covenant of Hope Ministries and our Sunday sermon. You will normally see us posted on Sunday and occasionally on Wednesday. I am Rev. Laura A. Neff. Our ministry was built on the truth of God’s love. It doesn’t conform to society’s wishes. This ministry shares the Word of God, the Spirit of Christ Jesus. Those who know me well will recognize that there are definitive differences in the creation of every sermon from this point forward. It is God’s will that has brought this to be. We wish only that God’s truth will be shared within His words as brought to us by the Spirit as it fills my heart, mind, and soul to be shared with my hands, but with His words alone.

You will find us in the following location:

Prayer: Father in heaven, this is our prayer today for seriously needed relief of those around this world who have suffered from COVID-19 and other deadly illnesses. We pray for those who have suffered as a result of natural disasters around this world. We pray continually for those who are oppressed, falsely imprisoned, and isolated or alone in this world. We pray for those who have been suffering illness or pain, that they will be given comfort and healing. We pray for blessings in the midst of pain, sorrow, terror, and more, so that this year is a better one for all around us. For each of these we pray in Your Holy Name, through our Savior Jesus Christ, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, Amen and so it shall be.

Sermon: We are continuing our theme with HOPE. This specific emotion, expression, fills heart, mind, spirit, and soul as one of the many gifts of the Holy Spirit, Jesus, and God thanks to the source of HOPE, which is UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. With that, let’s take a look at the next several verses in Scripture that contain the elements of hope. You will note some of those aspects and elements of hope in this first verse.

Philippians 1:20 KJV – According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

Paul was speaking at Philippi sharing what he hoped he represented as an Apostle of Christ long after the Resurrection. The hope he held was that Jesus Christ, the Savior shone through the Holy Spirit as it surrounded Paul while he spoke to the new followers of Christ. Now we will see how Jesus’s brother Jude expressed the gift of Hope, one of the most amazing portions of Unconditional Love.

Jude 3 KJV – Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Notice how faith and hope appear a great many times together in Scripture? Faith and Hope are two elements of love, specifically God’s unique view of LOVE. Let’s go back to the Scroll of Isaiah and take a look at what Paul referenced in his words.

Isaiah 51:7 KJV – Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

When the author here wrote, they speak of hope, even without the use of that very word. Righteousness, belief, faith, all belong together with hope. Without them, hope cannot stand. Without faith, you cannot believe. Without belief, your faith will suffer. Without hope, faith and belief will suffer in our hearts.

Isaiah 51:12 KJV – I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass;

This is the hope that a Savior would banish death and restore eternal life with God. The word HOPE isn’t found in this verse, but the way it is worded does indeed share that view. It doesn’t matter which view of Scripture you work with, that very element of God’s Unconditional Love would indeed be seen here. Our next verse directly references where our hope exists even when we don’t realize the potential.

Colossians 1:5 KJV – For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

Our hope can instantly be made stronger than we could possibly understand. Why is that? Well, this verse in Colossians shares exactly why. There are endless reserves of hope waiting for us to need it, held in the largest, most expansive, and endless space as God’s Heaven. That’s important. I can guess you’ll ask me why. It’s quite simple. Hope shares the thought, the core of any thoughts we may have, that eternal life is more than a concept, it is a reality. Hope is endless so long as we remember to express our hope, pray for our hope, share it with others, and with God.

2 Timothy 4:8 KJV – Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

The hope we all have is a space for us in heaven, a mansion, a room, doesn’t matter the size, just enough room for those of us who realize what the gift of God’s Unconditional Love holds within it, righteousness, faith, hope, peace, security, all of those things we can only dream of as we live life day to day in this world today. Our hope is much like what Peter shares here.

1 Peter 1:4 KJV – To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

We all HOPE to find that amazing, fascinating inheritance of God’s Love as this verse from Peter shares. Faith only fades if we allow it to leave our conscious and unconscious mind. HOPE reminds us that there is a place for each and every one of us, here on earth and with God in heaven. The faith that develops with knowledge and becomes righteousness is the ability to realize and recognize God’s existence in our lives, and that there is hope even in the midst of devastation. Take the current chaos of the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic that is consuming the news, causing all forms of chaos worldwide. There are those who point out that this is just one step in the “Last Days”. That’s our fear talking in some ways. And yet, even with fear, hope can continue to exist. THAT is what true FAITH IN GOD would be.

Colossians 1:23 KJV – If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Look at what Paul shares here. Grounded in FAITH! Kept in HOPE! We should always feel this way when it comes to God’s Unconditional Love. Faith is our foundation! Hope is the cement that connects the foundation to the house. Remember, there is one verse that shares this absolute necessity of a firm, unmoving foundation. Jesus shares this in His parable.

Matthew 7:24-27 KJV – Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

When we believe in something so strongly, as strong as the ROCK, the FOUNDATION of our FAITH, and share that fact with any and all who surround us, we are following God. Do this no matter the danger that could afford us in this world, then we are standing with God’s Unconditional Love, and the hope that Eternal Life is more than a hope, more than a wish, a reality. This is what Jesus promised. It is what He ensured His Apostles and Disciples would know and realize the eternal truth and how much it could impact our existence.

John 15:16 KJV – Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

The fact that Jesus has chosen us as His FRIENDS, says a lot. As a true Christian, a follower of Christ, we must remember what HE teaches about faith, about belief, and about hope. All three are complete parts of HIM. Because they are such, we have even more reasons to share our belief, our faith, hope, and love in Scripture and in life as we live it. It is our responsibility to share the righteousness that is God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit not just with our individual selves, but with anyone and everyone our lives touch. How much and how often we should do it is shared here in the next verses.

Matthew 24:14 KJV – And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Mark 16:15 KJV – And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Hope, Love, Faith, Belief, especially when it comes to our earning righteousness in God’s House, would be something we have to build upon. Much like building a foundation for a house where Christ lives with each of us, mind, body, spirit, soul. Let us remember that sharing the Word allows our belief to hold us up in those times where the world seems to crash around us. Remembering, reflecting, writing the Word on our hearts, and in our minds, that’s important because it allows our hope to spread within us and keep us from worry, fear, pain, or sorrow. Now that’s something to think about as we pray in the prayer that Jesus taught us saying:

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
(Matthew 6:9-13)

Sermon: We have been speaking of hope in this world full of chaos. Scripture wants us to continue seeking hope. God wants us to do the same. Hope is more than a word, an emotion, a feeling. Hope, like faith and belief, is just one part of the whole when it comes to Christianity. We see that here.

2 Corinthians 1:7 KJV – And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

Christianity, like many religions of this world, has its darker levels. The beginnings of Christianity were tough times, due to the mindset of the highest political and ruling powers in the world at that time. Today we still see this animosity between Christians and other faiths. Yet, if we remember, Jesus warned the Disciples and Apostles that this would come to pass, and would not end until the Second Coming promised with His resurrection and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:17 KJV – And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Paul was one of those who learned to hold on to his faith and hope no matter what chaos ensued. He suffered imprisonment and more during his lifetime. When he wrote the letters to the Romans and Corinthians, he wanted people to realize that although there is suffering in this world, Jesus will take all the sins and pains away for us, so long as we have faith and believe in His teaching, His promises, throughout His lifetime and ministry.

2 Corinthians 10:15 KJV – Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,

Enlarged could be read as magnified according to the various translations of the original script. Faith is increased by belief, by the gift of hope in that belief. That is an important aspect of our learning of Christ’s teachings and God’s Holy Word. It is something that, if you pay close enough attention, you will find easily memorized by our hearts, our minds, our spirits, and souls. Remember, God wants us to write His Word on and in our hearts, holding it as dearly as life itself, because Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Light of our salvation. That is what Peter, Paul, John the Beloved, and all the others worked hard to continue teaching while they lived. That is shown here in these verses.

Galatians 5:5 KJV – For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

Ephesians 1:18 KJV – The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

1 Peter 2:5 KJV – Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

When we exercise our faith, remembering and sharing our experiences, we grow our faith and any other person our sharing affects. Sometimes the affects are so slight, we might miss them entirely. Yet, that mustard seed of faith and belief, carries within it a world filled with hope and unconditional love, eternal peace. This isn’t meant just for Jews, but also for Gentiles, everyone else on this earth at the time. Nowadays there are many titles, names, designations for Gentiles in this world. When Paul and John the Beloved were with the Ephesians in Ephesus wanted to remind them that there is a whole lot of meaning in becoming one with Christ.

Ephesians 2:11-17 KJV – Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

Peace, even in today’s world, is something we often cannot see due to all the chaos and calamity surrounding us. In our world today, disease, death, fear, are our enemies. When God continually reminds us that He is still part of our lives, and yet we continue to fear what is going on, we’re not seeing as God sees things. God’s tiny mustard seed can flourish into an amazing view. Just that little ounce of belief, of faith, can help spread hope through this world no matter what is going on with the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic that is surrounding us. That peace, that faith, that hope, exists, and it’s shared here in these verses as it is in many passages of Scripture.

Ephesians 4:3-7 KJV – Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

The grace of God is something amazing to experience. Yet, as we live day by day learning more about the Savior and Salvation, the Father and Creation, the Spirit and our Hope in the gifts of Unconditional Love, Salvation, and Eternal Life will be our guiding light. Remember, even in the darkest times, there is that small flicker of light in the distance. That is our hope, an element of our faith and a measure of our peace.

Sermon: We have been discussing faith, and hope, and belief in God and Christ. On this day we celebrate the Resurrection, known as Easter. There is no greater view of hope being fulfilled than on this day in the history of Christianity. It is the defining moment for all Christians to share in wonder, awe, and blossoming faith. With that, we will start with this verse.

Mark 5:36 KJV – As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

Jesus was, in fact is, always telling us DO NOT BE AFRAID, BELIEVE. HAVE NO DOUBT. God’s messengers also share the same upon the day of RESURRECTION. Let’s see how this happens in the gospels. We will start here.

Matthew 28:1-11 KJV – In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.

Those of us who BELIEVE in the glory of God, will understand what it must have felt like to come upon the tomb, with the huge stone moved away from the doorway, and there was no body, nothing but the rags that had covered the Savior. Everyone wants to know exactly how and why things happen in this world. When Jesus rose from the dead, He left specific instructions for His Apostles and Disciples.

Matthew 28:16-20 KJV – Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Resurrection is a MIRACLE of God and Jesus as one with the Holy Spirit. Before their eyes, Jesus arose from death to eternal life. That’s something it takes work to have people believe today. Let’s look at this from John the Beloved’s point of view.

John 20:1-18 KJV – The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

This moment helped manifest that exhilarating feeling of HOPE FULFILLED with Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of Jesus, and all of the Apostles and Disciples of Christ as they were taught the glorious moment of Resurrection. It is the fulfillment of prophecy that brings us HOPE even in this world today. Here is one of my favorite verses on hope, and one that I am drawn to quite often because it is a view of the Resurrection far into the future and shared by the Apostle Paul.

1 Corinthians 13:12-13 KJV – For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Paul continues to share how HOPE continued to dwell in his spirit, heart, mind and soul. If we did not have the Scriptures to lean on during times of trouble like there are around this world today, HOPE would wane, and life would do the same. This is why we are together on Sunday, even if we are far apart at the same time. We are together to share in the love bound into our HOPE for CHRIST in RESURRECTION. Just as Paul was teaching here.

1 Corinthians 15:11-23 KJV – Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.
Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

So, on this celebration of Resurrection known to all as Easter, let us remember that HOPE is more than a feeling, more than an expression, it is a physical manifestation of the glory of Christ the Savior, God the Father, shared in the true gift of the Holy Spirit.

Our mission for Covenant of Hope Ministries is not to exploit fear, but to conquer it, and overcome all that is created through fear together as the bringers of the light of Jesus found in the midst of darkness.
