There are
monsters in Scripture? Well, sure, there
are devils, soothsayers, and more. Why shouldn't there be sea monsters?
Leviathan is found in several places in Scripture. Not surprisingly, at least one of those is in
Job. For a description of Leviathan you’d
have to go see the Scroll of Job, which shares these few bits of information.
Job 41: 1-4 KJV – Canst thou draw out leviathan with an
hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?
Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through
with a thorn?
Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft
words unto thee?
Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a
servant forever?
Another
view comes just a short time later in Psalm 74:14
KJV – Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in
pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.
We have a
second view in Psalm 104:26 KJV – There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou
hast made to play therein.
And we
wonder where some of the ideals of the existence of sea monsters came
from? Scripture shares just a few
glimpses. If you look at the other terms
possible, including great serpent, dragon and more, you’ll find still more
places to look. But then, also look for soothsayers and more, because the
scariest things of all begin not in the monsters we dream of, but in the seven
troubles that created them in the first place.
Our last
view is shown in Isaiah 27:1 KJV – In that day thee
LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the
piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the
dragon that is in the sea.
Yet, in
Scripture, the ideal of monsters would all boil down to earthly strife, trials
and tribulations, the seven troubles of vanity, envy, lust, enmity, wrath,
shame and doubt seen in more than living color, but in jumbo sized, graphic,
violent and frightful living color. But then, that’s what Revelation is all
about, isn’t it? The time of Revelation is exactly that, to reveal our true
colors, to show the good, the bad, and the ugly in this world we live in.
Sometimes we can see that easily. Others can, have, and will continually
surprise us. So, on All Hallow’s Eve, as many call it, may understanding and
wisdom follow the knowledge of Leviathan and the creature’s existence in
Scripture, and then ask yourself, are you ready? Think about it.

I just noticed that you have a tool to post to other sites on here. How did you do that?
ReplyDeleteThere is a chain for links next to where you change colors and highlight, to the right. All you do is highlight the word, or words, and paste it in, then put the whole link in the other section. That's how I do it. I don't have to do that for Multiply. Weird, but it works.
DeleteActually, just select, don't use the highlight feature, you won't have to.
