Power in the Blood – See His in Many Ways

Welcome to Covenant of Hope Ministries and our sermon or midweek study. You will normally see us posted on Sunday and Wednesday. I am Rev. Laura A. Neff. Our ministry was built on the truth of God’s love. It doesn’t conform to society’s wishes. This ministry shares the Word of God, the Spirit of Christ Jesus. Those who know me well will recognize that there are definitive differences in the creation of every sermon from this point forward. It is God’s will that has brought this to be. We wish only that God’s truth will be shared within His words as brought to us by the Spirit as it fills my heart, mind, and soul to be shared with my hands, but with His words alone.

Prayer List: We have many on our prayer list. Some wish to remain anonymous, and others only wish to have their first names mentioned. Our prayer list grows or changes every week. This is our current list.
- Please pray for the family and congregation led by Pastor Carlton Cooper. He has passed away after internal bleeding relative to kidney surgery. His congregation is from Bethel Baptist Church her in Georgia where my son is a member.
- Please pray for Elder Cal Jennings who has been suffering greatly with his health. May the Lord bring his spirits up and help heal him.
- Please pray for relief in the trials and tribulations for Sister Theresa and myself as we have had a great many over the past year and more.  Sister Theresa has added issues with her abilities toward communications may God and Jesus bring her the ability to keep those lines of communication open.
- Be thankful for each day we live as we do not know what tomorrow brings.
- Pray for our nations that the voice of God be heard through the Spirit.
- Pray for our friends and families that their tomorrows bring blessings and pray our own be the same.
- Pray for those suffering as a result of the terrors that have occurred just this past week around this world.
- Pray for our sick and wounded that they may heal.

Prayer: Father in heaven, our prayer today is to have the Spirit bring clarity to conditions and considerations we all make, some of us daily. We thank You for that gift of grace and understanding, and the many more You have brought us. May our fears be drawn out of us. May our pain and sorrow be eased. May peace be brought from our hearts and shared with others. May Your gifts of love shine through us toward others. We pray for the poor, the sick, the sorrowful, the wounded, and the frightened. We pray for the soldiers, the Samaritans, the children, and the rest. We pray in thanksgiving for every gift brought us. We pray that every tomorrow bring good things. For each of these we pray in Your Holy Name, through our Savior Jesus Christ, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, Amen and so it shall be.

Sermon: Well, this week has already been interesting. Yesterday I got into a discussion relative to the sermon study’s beginnings. It has to do with health and wellness. There are many who have wondered as to how the Lord viewed the methodology toward wellness found anywhere in this world. One of those relates to blood and the donation of it. I have consulted several others in different views of faith. As we all know Christianity has many divisions. In one direction it is okay to donate because it is due to our saving another life as would be one of our directives through Christ.

Romans 12:1 KJV – I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

If we recall, Jesus gave His life as a living sacrifice to save us. Now, it says nothing beyond presenting your body as a living sacrifice. Well, blood is what helps keep us alive. If it were to save a life then it is a worthy sacrifice. Like I say later, there are those who don’t agree with this for reasons regarding the Old Testament. We’ll look at that in just a moment. Let’s start with yet another view of the reasonable consideration to donate our blood to help another.

Galatians 6:9-10 KJV – And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

One group says absolutely not. This is due to Old Testament writings regarding the complete draining of blood from animals. So yes, there are quite a few points of view. We can’t always tell which direction is the best. However, we can look to Scripture and find out.

Leviticus 17:14 KJV – For [it is] the life of all flesh; the blood of it [is] for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh [is] the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

The problem with this consideration is that there is a focus on animals. Now, in Genesis God created a separation between man and animals. The way to find this is to simply go find where he creates man and then the animals as well. Let’s look here.

Genesis 1:26-27 KJV – And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominance over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl in the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Notice, God said man has dominance over the animals, land, sea, or sky. He also said not to have the blood of any of these animals pass by our lips. Thus we drain away the blood. Yet this doesn’t say anything about giving our blood to another to save their lives. That’s something people read into the writings of God. It doesn’t always mean that they are reading the thoughts correctly. Granted, any of us could be reading Scripture incorrectly and connecting dots that shouldn’t exist.
A final group says donation is fine so long as it isn’t whole blood, just platelets or plasma would be okay. In a lot of ways this one makes a great deal of sense. I spent nearly the entire day yesterday seeking answers. I also asked two of our membership in that regard as well. Both are very close confidants and knowledgeable in the Scriptures and who to ask in regard to questions like these.
Reverend Lisa Tyler and Elder Cal Jennings are those two consultants. I am thankful to have them with the knowledge as to who to ask after we all consult with God, what to look for, and so much more. You see, even as ministers we are always learning about the gifts Christ brings and what His word leads us to. There is POWER IN THE BLOOD. Our blood is a gift of God and cleansed through Jesus. When we donate blood for another to benefit from, we are sharing that gift of God of our free will. Some will argue. Others will agree. Still more will fall in-between those lines. Yet, there is a point of view larger than all we've discussed and that would be portrayed in our closing song. Realize the blood we carry within us also holds the blood of Christ as our salvation. Now that’s something to think about as we pray in the prayer that Jesus taught us saying:
Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13)

Opening Song: I Saw the Light https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtolv9kM1qk

Sermon: Today’s sermon is nice and simple as there is only a single verse the Spirit brought me. However, there is quite the powerful message within this single verse. Let’s take a look.
Psalm 27:1 KJV – The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is my strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Now, there are reasons this particular verse jumped into my mind’s eye through the Spirit. Many things have happened this past few months. I have seen the faith in Him diminish in so many directions I was often praying for the light to be seen and brought to those confused and in sorrow as a result. Add to that, several have had so many things going on they’re trying to find relief in many directions. One of the worst parts is the fact that some are frustrated to the point of tearing their hair out.
Yes, it is crazy in this world today. It is very difficult to find sanity anywhere. We’ve seen that in the news and just around us without a newspaper or television. Who shall we fear? There should be no one person or group of people we should fear. Certainly there are those who will do terrible things. Absolutely we see horrors in every direction these days. We see discrimination. We see Christianity being banned in places where it was never such. Yet, Jesus warned us that this would happen. It was difficult to be Christians after the death and resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ. It has always been difficult to be such in so many ways. Foundations that began in the light of Christ have been transformed into everything that shouldn’t be sitting on that foundation. There is one reason, and one reason alone, that we shouldn’t fear. That reason is Jesus Christ our Savior. He is always with us if we simply carry Him in our hearts no matter what happens around us. Listen to His voice within us through the Holy Spirit which He brought to us.
Just this year we have seen this chaos in every direction. From following our faith to throwing people out of locations, closing down their businesses, and other things simply because they are Christian and would rather not support certain ideals. Now, there are things that are wrong with this perception for people. In this case it would be the fact that Jesus tells us to forgive one another our sins and ask God to do the same. Look at the person, not what they are doing. You surely remember how Scripture shares what Jesus said in Luke 23:34 KJV – Then said Jesus, Father forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
People are not paying attention to what they are doing. They are ignoring the truth and what it should be. Now, there are those who are willing to accept everyone in this world, and yet also accept the things they do. However, you shouldn’t think about it this way. Yes, accept everyone in the world, but you don’t have to accept the things they do. That’s why Jesus said that while He was there on the cross. That’s also why we have the Our Father. We’re not perfect by ourselves. We are only perfect with Christ’s love in our hearts and shining through us. If we keep that light alive within us, no matter our circumstances, peace can be found.

Opening Song: God Knocking on Your Door https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYHZmffF7rg

Sermon: Today we’re talking about listening and hearing. Last time, as you know, we spoke about seeing and believing as well as believing and we’ll see. Well, you also have to listen to hear the truth. There are several verses related to this. We’ll start here in the one Scroll that warns us we must do so in order to see God and Jesus in heaven.

Revelation 3:20 KJV – Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Well, if you hear the knock on the door that means you have to have been waiting for it, listening carefully. Some say the door is an actual door. However, it is a door in the heart that opens to Him. Sure, we have opened our heart to Him as Christians, but that’s only one of the steps to get to His table in heaven. You see, we listen when we first accept Christ. We hear when we realize His impact on our lives. That’s when we’ll realize and recognize when He is knocking and open the door. Let’s see what more we have.

Luke 12:36-37 KJV – And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

If we listen and hear, look what God will do. He’ll beckon you to His table to feast. If we knock he listens. Shouldn’t we do the same when He does the knocking? All we have to do is open our ears, not physically alone, but spiritually as well. Now we’ll see what John the Beloved shares when he listens and hears.

Revelation 14:13 KJV – And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Notice, if we hear His voice and follow His lead to do work in His name, those works are noticed and the door will stand open for us. That’s an important view. Many times in today’s world we see doors closing around us. Some ask why. Well, God’s just telling us we’re knocking on the wrong door. So, when you open the door to Him, and share what you find with others, He will then open the door for you.

- Pray for the world at large that He might open the eyes of every heart to see the truth, the way, and the light.

Prayer: Father in heaven, our prayer today is to have the Spirit bring clarity to each of our decisions. We thank You for that gift and the many more You have brought us. May our fears be drawn out of us. May our pain and sorrow be eased. May peace be brought from our hearts and shared with others. May Your gifts of love shine through us toward others. Sermon: Too often we hear the words ‘you’ve got to see to believe’. Well, in the case of Jesus and our following His path, it is the opposite. To see you simply have to believe. Jesus said this to one of His Apostles. Yet, it was conveyed to all, even if it was directed at just one. That’s how we should share it.

John 20:29 KJV – Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

We see this, easily enough, there are the doubters. If you recall in many of my previous sermons I have spoken of seven troubles. Those seven troubles, vanity, envy, lust, enmity, wrath, shame, and doubt, all exist in this human world. You might think they are too close to the same thing. That’s true in some ways. The reason for this being such in some ways as opposed to all ways would be simple. Each of them equal trouble. Put them together, you’re talking BIG trouble. That’s where faith can enter into the conversation. You see, you can’t believe so you’ll see if you don’t have the faith to do so. It’s not like boom, it’s there. You have to have the faith to believe, no matter the circumstances. Sure, we could be in the middle of total chaos and ask ‘where are You, Jesus?’ He’s there if we believe even though we can’t see Him in the flesh. Remember Thomas and how much he doubted? He doubted enough to have Jesus tell him to touch His wounds. It is why we have the phrase ‘doubting Thomas’ in this world. Here again we have another view later in Scripture that shows us we don’t have to see to believe. We have to believe and we’ll see.

II Corinthians 5:7 KJV – (‘For we walk by faith, not by sight’)

What I love about Scripture is that it shows us in several views how faith can be seen in our hearts even if it’s not seen before our eyes. That’s what Jesus was working to teach through His entire life while preaching. Throughout all that time He walked in the different cities and towns seeing believers and non-believers, Jews and Gentiles. He taught regardless of their believing or not. There is a reason. At least one of the many could indeed begin the walk of faith toward believing. It isn’t easy now. It wasn’t easy then either.

I Peter 1:8 KJV – Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, thou now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Look here, again showing that even though we haven’t seen Christ, we believe, we can believe, because the proof isn’t in seeing with your eyes, it is in your heart where you see. The opening song is a song that says ‘open the eyes of my heart, Lord’. Well, the only way we can even think to have Him doing so is to have faith that He can do so in the first place. Sure, we aren’t perfect. But you have to believe to have Christ share His love, thus assisting in making us perfect. Remember, His strength is perfect.

Opening Song: Jesus Loves The Little Children https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CBtA1A-cR8

Sermon: For many it has been a pretty tough week. I have heard from several asking if God has abandoned them. If we pay attention to Scripture we know that He never abandons us, we abandon Him. Yet, still, even with that, ask and you receive. There’s a reason. If we ask, seek, knock, all of that will lead us back to God’s path through Jesus. Here you’ll see an example of that through the words of Jesus our Savior.

Matthew 7:7-11 KJV – Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish will he give him a serpent?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Jesus said EVERYONE who asks, seeks, or knocks, will find they are receiving what is needed, finding what is missing, and walking through that open door. Even if we’re pursuing evil, you know, envy, lust, enmity, wrath, vanity, shame, or doubt, yet will be sharing the good with our children, those happen to be gifts of the heart, then God sees this as easily as the bad. With that, He will give those good things that are asked of Him. Now, many of us forget this factor. We will miss the opportunities to share His love, even as we share our love with our children. There are those who even forget how to love the children, theirs or otherwise.
Now we come to how prayer brings God’s love into view. Let’s take a look.

Matthew 21:22 KJV – And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

We have to believe! It’s not something you can just ask and He’ll agree to it without your help. Yes, I said your help. We’ve got to pray for whatever it might be. That could be peace within us, our families, or our friends. It might be food and shelter, clothing, and other necessities. Yet, in one way or another, prayer can be answered. One of our members has been through a really rough time financially and had to find a place to live without much warning. She is disabled and lives off of nearly nothing. Yet she provides as well as she can for her only child. It is this, even in small ways, which gets rewarded. Sometimes that’s just a willing ear to hear anything that brings concern, is seen as a tiny miracle, and so on. Most of the time that’s my ear. I am often glad to hear from her even if it is something that worries her. Whether she realizes it or not I’m sitting there praying inside my head that something good will find her, and her child. That’s what friends are for.
Now, we get to one of those segments of Scripture that is often reflected upon. It is a single verse within the parable of the Vine and Branches.

John 15:7 KJV – If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Well, we can’t very well ask of Him if we don’t keep His love in our hearts. It may not always be easy to see that love inside us, or to even feel it, but, if we hold it there, something good can happen for us. His love is a gift. It should be shared, not just to others, but within ourselves. If we forget to realize we are a part of His love, and He is a part of ours, the reflection and giving of it will not register as it should within our consciousness. So ask, and in some way you’ll receive. Give and in other ways it will be given to you. Knock on His door and He’ll open it. All you have to do is believe in your heart and anything is possible.
