Welcome to Covenant of Hope Ministries and our Resurrection Sunday sermon. You will normally see us posted every Sunday on Facebook, Blogspot, LinkedIn, and Twitter. I am Rev. Laura A. Neff. Our ministry was built on the truth of God’s love. It doesn’t conform to society’s wishes. This ministry shares the Word of God, the Spirit of Christ Jesus. We wish only that God’s truth will be shared within His words as brought to us by the Spirit as it fills my heart, mind, and soul to be shared with my hands and voice, but with His words alone.
You will find us in the following location: http://www.covenantofhopeministries.blogspot.com

Prayer List: We have many on our prayer list. Some wish to remain anonymous, and others only wish to have their first names mentioned. Our prayer list grows or changes every week. This is our current list.
- Please continue pray for Rev. Lisa Tyler’s sister, Mary, who has had lung issues and is in the hospital in an induced coma. It isn’t COVID-19 related. Please pray that the LORD heals her and brings her smile to her face once more. She is making progress in healing.
- Please continue to pray for Elder Cal Jennings and his health issues, which are numerous. He has been having issues with his pain, vision, and memory. Add to the prayers with a need for new housing as the family is in dire straits there at this point in time.
- Please continue to pray for calm and peace for Sister Theresa Bogard who is going through a lot right now.
- Let us all pray for calm skies and seas, calm voices and spirits, and also healthy outcomes for those who are affected by the COVID-19 virus, all other viruses, cancers, and diseases and their variants.
- Continue to pray for a great many of my family members as they go through some dramatic changes in some cases. Say a special prayer for all of them. Lord help my family members make the best decisions for one and for all.
- Be thankful for each day we live as we do not know what tomorrow brings.
- Pray for all of our outreach ministries with Pastor Stephen Okoth, Pastor Robert Nganwa, Pastor Simon Peter Javaji, Rev. Lisa Tyler, and all the others who have joined us.
- Pray for our nations that the voice of God be heard through the Spirit.
- Pray for our friends and families that their tomorrows bring blessings and pray our own be the same.
- Pray for those suffering as a result of the terrors that have occurred just this past week around this world.
- Pray for our sick and wounded that they may heal.
- Pray that truth is revealed where falsehoods have been shared around this world.
Prayer: Father in heaven, this is our prayer for today. We bring our sick and wounded up in prayer, including Elder Cal Jennings, Rev. Lisa Tyler’s sister, and other family members for us. We pray for answers to mysteries for health issues and money issues with several members and family members. We pray for those celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus our Savior, that the Holy Spirit bless each of them. We pray for our poor and desolate, our brothers and sisters who have been brought devastation due to the terrors around this world and all of the natural disasters, storms, and so forth this past week. We continue our prayers for those in our outreach ministries that their reach gains momentum and their needs are met. For each of these we pray in Your Holy Name, through our Savior Jesus Christ, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, Amen and so it shall be.

Sermon: We are pausing in the good versus evil verses in Scripture and exploring good versus evil in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Friday I was listening to a lesson on Kabbala and also working to find the best method toward teaching those who are listening what the festival of Passover, Christ’s Crucifixion, and His Resurrection should look like. I fell into a trap and pulled my way out of it by going back to a favorite sequence of verses. So, how do we start this lesson on what Easter should look like? In order to do so, we have to understand more about Passover.
Passover takes place in early spring during the Hebrew calendar month of Nissan, as prescribed in the book of Exodus. This is the description straight from Scripture.
Exodus 12:18 KJV: In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.
Now, how does the day and date change every year? Our calendar, and the Hebrew calendar run on completely different timelines. Our calendar is set up through the Gregorian calendar and we have other issues through history that keep us on our toes when we are working for Jesus Christ our Savior.
Because the Hebrew calendar does not match up with the Gregorian calendar, the date of Passover changes every year. Passover dates for this year would be March 27th through April 4th, which means the celebration Jewish people follow for Passover culminates in what we celebrate, which is the celebration of His Resurrection. Our Lord and Savior has risen, Hallelujah.
For this reason, the actual timeline of the Crucifixion and Resurrection starts from this past Wednesday, which would have been the day Jesus was betrayed. Thursday He was tried before Pontius Pilate. Friday the Jewish leadership chose a criminal over Christ. All of which had been predicted in the earliest Scrolls of Scripture. Let’s continue this exploration with this passage.
Exodus
12:1-20 KJV – And the Lord spake
unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying,
This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first
month of the year to you.
Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this
month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their
fathers, a lamb for an house:
And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next
unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man
according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it
out from the sheep, or from the goats:
And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the
whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on
the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened
bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head
with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which
remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and
your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord's passover.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of
Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord.
And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and
when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon
you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to
the Lord throughout your
generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away
leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first
day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day
there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in
them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.
And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day
have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe
this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.
In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat
unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.
Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth
that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation
of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.
Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened
bread.
Jesus followed the very same process and procedure for the celebration of Passover with His Apostles and Disciples, friends, and family members. He changed it in a significant way, one we know very well.
Luke
22:1-22 KJV – Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the
Passover.
And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they
feared the people.
Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the
twelve.
And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he
might betray him unto them. And they were glad, and covenanted to give him
money.
And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence
of the multitude.
Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may
eat.
And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we
prepare?
And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a
man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he
entereth in.
And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee,
Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready
the passover.
And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to
eat this passover with you before I suffer:
For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in
the kingdom of God.
And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among
yourselves:
For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the
kingdom of God shall come.
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them,
saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do
in remembrance of me.
Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is
the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by
whom he is betrayed!
You’ll see, through the entire celebration together with His Apostles and Disciples at that table, He was preparing Himself, as well as His followers for what would happen at the end of their Last Supper together. It would be as devastating as any disaster in this world could ever be. It was the utter despair Jesus portrayed as He watched those who were around Him at the Passover table. He was working hard to ensure that the Apostles would realize what was happening and what would change their lives entirely. There is one point in the procession of Jesus toward where He would be crucified that we should explore a bit more.
Luke 20:20-31 KJV – Pilate therefore, willing to
release Jesus, spake again to them.
But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found
no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.
And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified.
And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into
prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out
of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after
Jesus.
And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also
bewailed and lamented him.
But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of
Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the
barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills,
Cover us.
For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?
Jesus was teaching those who were bawling their eyes out at the sight of Him being dragged to Calvary toward His death. He was teaching them that this was not the end. In fact, it would be the beginning of a promise made to Adam and Eve in the fact that there would be salvation, and a Savior born to save all who believe. That Savior is the Son of God, and the Son of Man, the bringer of the Great Comforter the Holy Spirit. The deliverer we all should reflect on and share with those who surround us who might not believe, because the truth is something we can’t always see with our eyes, or feel with our hearts alone. Sometimes it takes a prayer to bring that peace within us so that we can share that gift with everyone around us on a daily, hourly basis. What is that gift? How should we see this gift?
Luke
24:1-53 KJV – Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning,
they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and
certain others with them.
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men
stood by them in shining garments:
And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said
unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in
Galilee,
Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be
crucified, and the third day rise again.
And they remembered his words,
And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and
to all the rest.
It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women
that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the
linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that
which was come to pass.
And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which
was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus
himself drew near, and went with them.
But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
And he said unto them, What manner of communications
are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him,
Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are
come to pass there in these days?
And he said unto them, What things? And they
said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed
and word before God and all the people:
And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to
death, and have crucified him.
But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and
beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early
at the sepulchre;
And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a
vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even
so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to
believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in
all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though
he would have gone further.
But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and
the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed
it, and brake, and gave to them.
And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their
sight.
And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked
with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven
gathered together, and them that were with them,
Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in
breaking of bread.
And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith
unto them, Peace be unto you.
But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a
spirit.
And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do
thoughts arise in your hearts?
Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a
spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have
ye here any meat?
And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
And he took it, and did eat before them.
And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was
yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law
of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it
behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among
all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
And ye are witnesses of these things.
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city
of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands,
and blessed them.
And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried
up into heaven.
And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
I know that this has been a much longer sermon for us here at Covenant of Hope Ministries, but truly the Lord put it in my heart to explain every inch of what the Lord suffered and then also what the Lord showed all of His Apostles. It brings to the surface all the fear, all the wonder, and all the confusion brought about by the betrayal of Jesus they all participated in, whether knowingly or unknowingly. It brings a greater understanding of what we should reflect on, teach about, all who gather together to hear the love of God, the unconditional love Jesus brought us, and continues to bring to us through the Holy Spirit. Now that’s something to think about as we pray in the prayer that Jesus taught us saying:
Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
