Covenant
of Hope Ministries Wednesday Study_4_10_2014
Good
afternoon, and welcome to this Midweek Study for Covenant of Hope Ministries. I
am Rev. Laura A. Neff. You can find sermons posted on Sundays and studies on
Wednesday. Our locations are online only:
Our Main Video Feed: Covenant_of_Hope
We
have email (instant messenger if you need me) through Facebook every day. Look
for my name minus the title. These are now extremely variable. Our Elder Cal
Jennings is just as variable and can be found on several sites as noted by his
sermons. We’re still working this out between the two of us as to what will happen,
our Elder, Cal Jennings and I. I will inform you further regarding changes.
These changes were made due to health reasons. The sermon length has shortened
dramatically. We are unsure as to when there might be video presentations.
Prayer List: We have many on our prayer list. Some wish to remain anonymous, and others only wish to have their first names mentioned. Our prayer list has grown from last week. This is our current prayer list for this week.
- Please keep Elder Cal Jennings in your prayers as his health
doesn’t know where it wants to be.
- Keep our member Wayne Bartosh in prayer with his health and
other issues that are plaguing him.
- A friend of mine has requested prayers for an elderly couple
as they sit in the hospital. The woman has a broken hip and has just had
surgery.
- Add friends of my friend Laura who are waiting to learn about
their employment status due to reorganization and buyout.
- Please pray for my friend Teresa’s sister who is in stage four
cancer. Keep Teresa and her daughter in prayer for many other things that have
been weighing down on their hearts, minds, and spirits.
- Please keep others known by any of us up in prayer for
whatever they might need.
- Please keep my friend Heather in prayer for patience and safe
haven.
- Please keep my whole family in prayer for the pain, suffering,
and chaos we are going through.
- Continue your prayers for Phoebe Fair’s family as they
continue to grieve her loss.
- Pray that the adversity and the pain we have seen around the
world would be relieved, and swept away. May we find common ground in many
ways, even if we start with just one step.
- Remember those who have been lost either violently or
peacefully this week.
- Keep the ministry in your thoughts, each member, no matter
their location, their circumstances, because a group of friends, a ministry,
should support one another.
- There are many in our ministry who are searching for more in
regard to our presence with my health, and with the health of others. We pray
that there would be health found once more, and that we have answers to all and
for all.
Prayer:
Father in heaven, we thank You for this day and for these who
are here to share it with us. We thank you for giving us reasons to appreciate
and celebrate life, including our friends and family. We pray for those who are
suffering, whether it be finances, pain, illness, or any other trial and
tribulation. We pray that peace can be found when shared by those who
understand that to give is to have as well. We ask this in Your Holy Name,
through the Savior Jesus Christ, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, Amen and so
it shall be.

Sermon:
Today
there is the inspiration of two verses in the scroll of Daniel. I find it
interesting that, in the four versions there are very distinct changes. Look
here at these highlights. Two of the four are identical. Those are the King
James and the Lamsa Aramaic versions. As to the New International and New American
Standard versions we see two completely different views of the dream visions
shared.
Note
that these differences are higlighted in a different color.
Daniel 7:13-14 NIV – In my vision at night I looked, and there
before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He
approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence.
He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations
and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an
everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will
never be destroyed.
How
intriguing it is to see these subtle differences. The problem with those subtle
difference is, quite literally, in the translation itself. Like many things,
the true meaning can, and sadly often is, lost in translation. They continually
‘improve’ the texts of the Scriptures. Yet, are they truthfully doing so? Each
of these versions was written in completely different centuries. The first
Aramaic, second King James, third New International, and last New American
Standard. Certainly there are dozens of other versions. The way a person
speaks, during every era, will first change the look, and second change the
emphasis and meaning within the works they are reading. This is why we still
read Shakespeare in Old English, the best view of many books would be in their
original format and formula. There is yet another problem within the problem.
No one truthfully has access to a complete view of every scroll in Scripture as
it was originally written. There is a reason for that too. Up until the first
author, everything was remembered orally, shared from father to son, and so on,
until at last it was put on paper. Again we get yet another view with
highlights.
Daniel 7:13-14 KJV – I saw in the night visions,
and, behold, one like the Son of man came with in the clouds of heaven, and
came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that
all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an
everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that
which shall not be destroyed.
King
James was an imperious man who, even with the best scholars around, insisted
things would be done his way. Those scholars worked to get everything compiled
to where each of the Scrolls of Scripture were in some form of legibility and
legitimacy. They were then translated to Old English with specified changes
King James stressed. There would, due to deliberate motives, be more still lost
in translation.
Daniel 7:13-14 NASB – I kept looking in the night visions, And
behold, with the clouds of heaven
One like a Son of Man was coming,
And He came up to the Ancient of Days
And was presented before Him.
And to him was given dominion,
Glory and a kingdom,
That all the peoples, nations and men of every language
Might serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion
Which will not pass away;
And His kingdom is one
Which will not be destroyed.
Notice
how the format itself changes here. You’ll see this in some versions of the
NIV. The online versions too have their capacities to provide a loss in
translation. Dreams, night visions, Daniel speaks of a vision of the Son of Man
returning to glory, to bring a kingdom, a mighty kingdom, that would wash all
the terrible things this world would have. Here is yet another view of
Scripture.
Daniel 7:13-14 Lamsa Aramaic – I saw in the night visions, and
behold, one like the Son of man came upon the clouds of heaven, and came to the
Ancient of days, and they brought him before him.
And there was given him dominion and glory and a kingdom, that
all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him, his
dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom
is one that shall not be destroyed.
When
God’s Word is lost in translation, do we get lost as well? Is there a way to
find that path again? Yes. We look at as many views, and see what they share
and what they don’t. Then we look into what changed that portion which is not
the same. Is it due to the times? Is it due to strong persuasion? Then there is
the fact that when we read it, even with all four versions in front of us, our
own interpretation can change the meaning as well. Being lost in translation is
like being lost in the wilderness. A path can be found. All we have to do is
look for it. God, and Jesus, have given us discernment, the ability to see
truth as it weaves its way through, no matter what might be. This is regardless
of the version, the age and knowledge of the one studying or reading, and more.
Now that’s something to think about as we pray in the prayer Jesus taught us
saying: After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father
which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine
is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13 KJV)

Our mission for Covenant of Hope Ministries and
Poetic-Expressions is not to exploit fear, but to conquer it, and overcome all
that is created through fear together as the rainbow in the darkness.
As always, Elder Cal Jennings can surprise me. He can also remind me that we both can miss things, thus being lost in translation. Here is the link to his sermon for yesterday. Have a blessed day. http://spaceeagleproductions-cal-el.blogspot.com/2014/04/ancient-technology-disproves-bronze-age.html
