Welcome to Covenant of Hope Ministries and our sermon or
midweek study. You will normally see us posted on Sunday and Wednesday. I am
Rev. Laura A. Neff. Our ministry was built on the truth of God’s love. It
doesn’t conform to society’s wishes. This ministry shares the Word of God, the
Spirit of Christ Jesus. Those who know me well will recognize that there are
definitive differences in the creation of every sermon from this point forward.
It is God’s will that has brought this to be. We wish only that God’s truth
will be shared within His words as brought to us by the Spirit as it fills my
heart, mind, and soul to be shared with my hands, but with His words alone.
You will find us in the following location: http://www.covenantofhopeministries.blogspot.com
Prayer List: We have many on our prayer list. Some wish
to remain anonymous, and others only wish to have their first names mentioned.
Our prayer list grows or changes every week. This is our current list.
- Please pray for Elder Cal Jennings who has been
suffering greatly with his health. He has been in and out of the hospital many
times over the past year. He is in a great deal of pain as a result. May the
Lord bring his spirits up and help heal him.
- Please pray for relief in the trials and tribulations
for Sister Theresa due to pain from a terrible hit and run accident late last
year. She has struggled to find a job where she can feel as though she is not hurting
worse than she did a year ago.
- Please continue to pray for my granddaughter Maria. She
is getting stronger and is now able to be held by my daughter Deanna for the
first time since she was born two weeks ago. Add my daughter in your prayers
for her dizziness and her blood pressure.
- Be thankful for each day we live as we do not know what
tomorrow brings.
- Pray for our nations that the voice of God be heard through the Spirit.
- Pray for our friends and families that their tomorrows bring blessings and pray our own be the same.
- Pray for our nations that the voice of God be heard through the Spirit.
- Pray for our friends and families that their tomorrows bring blessings and pray our own be the same.
- Pray for those suffering as a result of the terrors
that have occurred just this past week around this world.
- Pray for those who were in the mass shooting ordeals
over this past week.
- Pray for our sick and wounded that they may heal.
Prayer: Father in heaven,
our prayer today is to have the Spirit continue to bring healing to each of our
bodies, minds, spirits, and souls. We pray for further enlightenment and
understanding while studying Your Word. We thank You for these gifts and the
many more You have brought us. May all of our fears be drawn out of us. Help us
to see the many gifts Your love brings and the unknown locations it might be
found. May our pain, fear, and sorrow be eased. May peace be brought from our
hearts and shared with others we meet. May Your gifts of love shine through us
toward others. We pray for the poor, the sick, the sorrowful, the wounded, and
those who are frightened. We pray for the soldiers, the Samaritans, the
children, and the rest. We pray in thanksgiving for every gift brought us. We
pray that every tomorrow would bring good things. For each of these we pray in
Your Holy Name, through our Savior Jesus Christ, and the gift of the Holy
Spirit, Amen and so it shall be.

Sermon: The other day, Elder
Cal Jennings shared a series of verses in this passage. I think it shows how
believing is more than what you see, hear, or experience in your life when it
comes to following Jesus through Scripture, through Prayer, and through sharing
His Truth with those around us. This is part of the greatest teaching tool for
any Christian anywhere in this world. With that, we start here for our sermon
today.
Matthew
22:35-46 KJV –Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question,
tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Jesus
said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with
all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
While
the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
Saying,
What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They
say unto him, The son of David.
He
saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him
Lord, saying,
The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make
thine enemies thy footstool?
If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
And
no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth
ask him any more questions.
Notice
how this starts with a challenging question from a lawyer? The question
directed specifically toward Jesus Christ Himself. And yet, what happens? Jesus
turns the challenge into the perfect lesson. Now, Elder Cal Jennings offered a
similar lesson when he brought me this passage.
1 John 4:1-7 KJV KJV – Beloved, believe not
every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false
prophets are gone out into the world.
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

In
both of these passages, Jesus is speaking. In the first passage in Matthew we
see how Jesus answers a challenge to His teaching, and God’s power. In the
second, we see how John interpreted his dear Friend, Jesus, in how people pay
attention, and see truth as they believe. The hard part, there are many false
teachers, false prophets, on this earth. So many in fact, Jesus offered a
warning, before, and after His resurrection. As we get closer to the
celebration of Jesus’ birth, we should learn what it truly means to believe with
our whole hearts, our entire minds, our human spirits, and our eternal souls.
That’s why these words are in front of you now. It is the perfect moment for
reflection on our lives and what they should be filled with. Now that’s
something to think about as we pray in the prayer that Jesus taught us saying:
Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13)

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Our mission for Covenant of Hope Ministries is not to
exploit fear, but to conquer it, and overcome all that is created through fear
together as the bringers of the light of Jesus found in the midst of darkness.
