Welcome to Covenant of Hope Ministries and our combined written and live Sunday sermon, which is normally broadcast every Sunday. I am Rev. Laura A. Neff. Our ministry was built on the truth of God’s love, sharing the Word of God, the Spirit of Yeshu Ha-Notzri or in English Jesus Christ of Nazareth in a way that we believe embraces the ways Jesus taught us to manage. We bring His Word to the many as opposed to the few, in order to continue the legacy created by the ministry of Jesus Christ.

Prayer List: We have many on our prayer list. Some wish to remain anonymous, and others only wish to have their first names mentioned. Our prayer list grows or changes every week. This is our current list.

-      We pray for my employer and his wife, Ed and Joy, who are quite ill at this time. Ed was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, and his wife Joy has been in the hospital with fluid in her lungs and other health issues. She was sent to rehabilitation around Wednesday of last week once again. She is on oxygen full time and 24-hour observation. Pray as they are being set up with full-time managed care. Pray also for their son Ed Jr. who has had a lot of back problems and is trying to hold off with surgery until retirement.

-      We are still praying today for my dear friend JB who has finally been given limited ability to travel away from home five days per week for very short distances. Please keep JB in prayer for continued therapy, and continued doctor visits after her broken hip and upper leg. Please pray about the source of her extreme weight loss so that it can be solved. Please start praying again for her husband EB as well with his health and his muscles and movement as he has serious mobility issues. Add her sister-in-law who is suffering from cancer at this time.

-      Pray for my son-in-law’s younger sister who lost two babies before twelve weeks gestation in the past six months.

-      Pray for that same son-in-law’s grandfather Wayne Shelton, who had a stroke three weeks ago.

-      Evangelist Cal Jennings is doing better after the third degree burns to his fingertips. His fingers are finally starting to resemble fingers after the amputations. He is still healing very slowly and still has a while to go with the rehabilitation. Please pray for his healing and that his pain is treated like it should be treated, not as an afterthought.

-      We continue to pray for my Mama who has had a lot of issues lately in her life including a few days in which she will be alone this week. Please keep her in prayer for her anxieties, fears, and general well-being.

-      We continue to pray for a friend of ours, Alexis, who is in desperate need to improve her current situation and is seeking to sell things she owns to help her with this. If you want more information, send me a private message and I’ll pass on the information.

-      We continue to pray for all sufferers and survivors of the various types of cancer, including several survivors of the disease, Evangelist Cal Jennings’ brother-in-law David Doyle, JB’s sister Debbie, Jerry, our friend Alexis, my Aunt Donna, and my friend Kelly.

-      We pray for those who are in the path of dangerous weather, and other dangerous conditions around this world.

-      We pray for the various outreach ministries we have joined with, with their leaders, Pastor Jared Otieno, Pastor George Ototo, Pastor Stephen Okoth, Pastor Simon Peter Javaji, Pastor Amir Aneel, Sister Santhi Swaroopa, Pastor Duke Moenga, and others in Kissee, Nairobi, and other places in Kenya, Pakistan, and India.

-      We pray also for our American outreach ministries, including Rev. Lisa Tyler on the other side of Georgia from where I am and Rabbi Karen L. Hertzog with her ministry, Way Maker Messianic Jewish and Christian Center – USA as well.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, there are so many in our hearts and thoughts and so much going on in life that needs prayer. We continue to pray for Ed and Joy with their health issues, and their son Ed Jr. for his back issues, EB and JB and their many health issues. We continue to pray for EB and JB’s sister-in-law who has cancer as well. We pray for those who are in the path of the various hurricanes and tropical storms. We pray for the many who are injured and ill in our ministry, our friends, including Evangelist Cal, our family, and more. We pray for my Mama who has some anxiety going on right now with being alone for half the week, so we pray for her confidence and her patience. We pray for the homeless and the helpless around this world. We pray for the many victims of violence, prejudice, and terrorism in this world. We pray for those still under the thumb of slavery and oppression. We pray for the unjustly persecuted and prosecuted. We pray for our friends and family who have been fighting cancer. We pray for those who survived cancer, including Kelly, Alexis, David, and Debbie and many more, that they continue to remain well. We pray for the nations at war. We pray in remembrance of those lost. We pray for all this in Your Holy Name through our Savior Jesus Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit, Amen and so it shall be.

Opening Song: His Name Is Wonderful

Sermon: Today we continue the fifteenth chapter of 1st Corinthians. Now, this segment is tough because it helps us to see more clearly how through our Savior Jesus Christ, we have achieved something more important than we could have being descendants of Adam and Eve. That achievement is the promise of eternal life, which can only be achieved through His Salvation.

1 Corinthians 15:21 KJV –For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

NIV –For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.

Paul goes all the way back to the situation with the Tree of Knowledge and the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden. But he brings forward a serious point in Christianity. That point is the gift of eternal life. Christians, past, present, and future, need to understand what a seriously enormous gift the resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ has brought for us. Paul starts us off with his references in the Torah

Genesis 3:19 KJV – In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

NIV – By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”

Paul has five New Testament points of view including the Word as shared by our Savior Yeshu Ha Notzri Jesus Christ of Nazareth in the gospel written by John the Beloved as well as the Acts of the Apostles as written by Luke, before including the Hebrew Prophets and again completing his thoughts with John the Beloved’s Revelation.

John 5:28-29 KJV – Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

NIV – “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.

John 11:25 KJV – Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

NIV – Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;

Acts 17:31 KJV – Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

NIV – For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

Hebrews 2:14-15 KJV – Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

NIV – Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Revelation 1:18 KJV – I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

NIV –I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

Paul portrays the real truth regarding mankind, and the absolute necessity God realized all the way back in the Garden of Eden. We needed someone that was both God and Man, so God became Man born in the body of a baby named Yeshu Ha Notzri, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. We had to have salvation through God’s greatest sacrifice, His only begotten Son, so eternal life could be achieved for all who believe. This is what Paul shares next.

1 Corinthians 15:22 KJV –For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

NIV – For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

Paul goes through to his go to prophet, Isaiah, to begin with in these references.

Isaiah 25:8 KJV – He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.

NIV – he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. The Lord has spoken.

Paul then focuses on the Word as shared by our Savior in the writing of John the Beloved in these three talking points.

John 5:21 KJV – For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

NIV – For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.

John 6:39-40 KJV – And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

NIV – And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

John 11:26 KJV – And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

NIV –and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Paul now focuses on something we hear quite often in Christianity regarding faith and belief. That subject is “firstfruits”. What are “firstfruits”? Well, this is the first pick of the crops, whether it is from the vineyards, the fields, fruit trees, gardens, and so forth. This is something that was set aside for God in the Old Testament and continued through until the resurrection of our Savior. However, our personal firstfruits continue to feed our faith, our belief, our hope, and so much more. This is what Paul shares next.

1 Corinthians 15:23 KJV –But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

NIV – But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

Paul turns to the words of the first two kings of Israel, David and Solomon to start with this.

Psalm 31:15 KJV – My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

NIV – My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV – To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

NIV – There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

He adds four New Testament references including two gospel verses from Matthew and John the Beloved as well as the writings of Luke in the Acts of the Apostles and the Revelation as shared by John the Beloved.

Matthew 24:30-31 KJV – And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

NIV – “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

John 10:27-28 KJV – My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

NIV – My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

Acts 17:26 KJV – And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

NIV – From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.

Revelation 1:5 KJV – And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

NIV –and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,

Now Paul wants us to reflect on what will happen in the future when Jesus returns to the earth to judge the living and the dead. That’s a challenge that Jesus doesn’t want, never wanted, but we have given Him no other choice but to do so. We have to realize just how important Yeshu Ha Notzri is for our very existence. We have to realize this in a million ways, when we’re awake, asleep, dreaming, worrying, laughing, crying, praying and more.

1 Corinthians 15:24 KJV – Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

NIV – Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.

Paul shares just one single Old Testament point of view from the prophetic writings of Daniel.

Daniel 7:13-14 KJV – I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

NIV – “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Paul includes two references again of the Word as shared by Yeshu Ha Notzri, Jesus Christ of Nazareth in the gospels of Matthew and Luke.

Matthew 24:14 KJV – And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

NIV – And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Luke 22:29-30 KJV – And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

NIV – And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Paul adds three other references from John the Beloved’s Revelation here.

Revelation 10:7 KJV – But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

NIV – But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.”

Revelation 11:15 KJV – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

NIV – The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.”

Revelation 20:4-6 KJV – And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

NIV –I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

Now comes the next most difficult part for our Savior, which Paul portrays here.

1 Corinthians 15:25 KJV –For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

NIV – For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

Paul references three Old Testament points including King David, and the prophet Daniel. These are points that need to be made in regard to what Jesus Christ would bring forward through His life, death, and resurrection. We all need to understand all the precursors, the premonitions, and everything that came afterward, as well as what is still to come.

Psalm 2:8-9 KJV – Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

NIV – Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

Psalm 110:1 KJV – The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

NIV – The Lord says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”

Daniel 7:14 KJV – And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

NIV – He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Now this is an interesting point, because it repeats something we just read, but through the Word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Note, we just pointed this out through the words of King David, and repeated in our Savior’s voice.

Matthew 22:44 KJV – The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

NIV – “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.”’

Here are two further New Testament views including the writings of Luke in the Acts of the Apostles and John the Beloved’s Revelation.

Acts 2:34-35 KJV – For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

NIV – For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand 35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’

Revelation 19:15 KJV – And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

NIV –Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.

One of the biggest enemies in this world is something that is inevitable for those who don’t believe in our Savior and the gift of His Salvation. Those who are non-believers, unbelievers, and who have turned away from Him, will lose their ability toward Salvation. Now, not everyone can be saved, but that’s not because God and Jesus haven’t tried. In fact, it is because we fail to see Him in our lives. We fail to hear His voice in our hearts and minds and souls. The greatest gift that Jesus provides for us is the destruction of the last enemy this world has. What is that last enemy?

1 Corinthians 15:26 KJV –The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

NIV – The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

Paul brings prophetic points of view from the Old Testament here.

Hosea 13:14 KJV – I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

NIV – “I will deliver this people from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. Where, O death, are your plagues? Where, O grave, is your destruction?
“I will have no compassion,

Paul adds to this with the writings of the Hebrew prophets and also John the Beloved’s Revelation in these three references.

Hebrews 2:14 KJV – Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

NIV – Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—

Revelation 20:14 KJV – And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

NIV – Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.

Revelation 21:4 KJV – And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

NIV –‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Paul adds this final verse for us today. We end about one third of the way through this chapter. There’s a lot to understand in Paul’s letter to Corinth and our dedication to Jesus Christ is something that is tested continuously. It is when we can defeat these tests that we see where Jesus has already defeated them. Here is what Jesus will do to those obstacles for us as Paul shares.

1 Corinthians 15:27 KJV –For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

NIV – For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.

Paul has four references, one from the writings of King David, two gospel references from Matthew and John the Beloved in the Word as spoken by our Savior Jesus Christ, and one final reference from the Hebrew prophets.

Psalm 8:6 KJV – Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

NIV – You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet:

Matthew 11:27 KJV – All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

NIV – “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

John 14:28 KJV – Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

NIV – “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

Hebrews 2:6-8 KJV – But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that thou visitest him?
7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

NIV – But there is a place where someone has testified: “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him?
7 You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor 8 and put everything under their feet.”
In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.

There is so much to understand within the sacrifice God managed in the conception, life, death, and resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Our very faith and belief in His creation of the path of salvation This is not just because of the fact that Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Yeshu Ha Noztri, died for our sins and was raised from the dead to judge the living and the dead at the right hand of the Father in heaven. There is so much to learn from Scripture, in the beautiful gift that is our Savior. That is what Paul brings forward through his letter to Corinth here. One of the best ways that we can bring more faith and belief together with others is by showing each other how faith and belief in God go hand in hand, and all of us have the opportunity to walk in the faithful steps of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The ability to do this requires us to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. If you are willing to do so, please leave me a note in the comments and I’ll be in touch. Now, that’s something to think about as we pray in the prayer that Jesus taught us.

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
(Matthew 6:9-13)
