Glory Seen in the Chant Hosanna, Blessed is the King of Israel

Good afternoon, welcome to Covenant of Hope Ministries. My name is Rev. Laura A. Neff, the Rainbow Minister. The choice for Rainbow has to do with the fact that the rainbow symbolizes a promise made and one that can and will be kept. I made, long ago, a promise to God that I would do all I could to keep that faith within me. We are normally posted on Sundays for sermons and Wednesdays for studies. You can find these posted in the following locations.

Sermon:  Good afternoon. Today's inspiration came very late last evening while praying to find exactly what the Spirit wished me to say on Palm Sunday. The answer came in the Gospel of John. The Day of Palms celebrates when Jesus rode on the back of an ass to the gates of Jerusalem. This just prior to his crucifixion and death. There are several verses as shown here.
John 12:12-18 KJV – On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.
Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written.
Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.

These people were literally watching prophecy come to pass. Yet, they didn’t realize it. Even the disciples didn’t realize the significance of the Day of Palms where Jesus rode on the colt of an ass on His way to Jerusalem. John shares that they would only realize this afterwards. When did this occur? It waited until after His crucifixion. Prophecy fulfilled, start to finish, in the glory becoming the rags of blood and the tears of pain as Jesus hung on the cross. This week signifies the journey from the heralded Prince of Peace, King of the Jews, to the one crucified on the cross. It is the longest week remembered in the mortal life of Jesus Christ our Savior.

So, how should we treat this week prior to Easter? Well, we should reflect on our view of miracles. Be they great or small, miracles are found if you open your eyes to see. Jesus shared many views of these glorious occurrences. Lazarus, the Centurion, the lepers, and many others. He shared them and still shares miracles great and small here in this world today. We might fail to recognize them as such, but they are there.

There are many ways to view Palm Sunday. It can be a view of glory. It can be a view of joy. It can also be something of a warning that sometimes glory waits and is celebrated prematurely on occasion. Today, just today, we find that God shines on so many. That is seen in some eyes, hearts, spirits, and souls. In others they miss that one entirely. Miracles don’t have to be seen, touched, heard, smelled, or even tasted. They can just be there. This is the miracle of Jesus and His Spirit as given to us all.

That's what Palm Sunday brings. It brings us to the finish of one era in life to the start of a new beginning. Remember, He was born, was revered, was arrested, tried, and crucified, only to be resurrected back into a different form of glory. This is why we call Glory to God. Hosanna, hosanna, glory to God in the highest. Now, that's something to think about as we pray in the prayer that Jesus brought us.
Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
(Matthew 6:9-13)

Our mission for Covenant of Hope Ministries and Poetic-Expressions is not to exploit fear, but to conquer it, and overcome all that is created through fear together as the rainbow in the darkness.

This mission statement speaks of the rainbow in the darkness. Every time I would have a seriously traumatic thing happen in my life I would wake in the middle of the night. When I do I see a rainbow at the end of my bed, or even through the window behind my head. I’ll see that rainbow in a dark room even during the day. It will hover in the shadows and reassure me that God is with me.

The Gifts of His Love and the Troubles That Corrupt Them

Welcome to Covenant of Hope Ministries and our sermon or midweek study. You will normally see us posted on Sunday and Wednesday. I am Rev. Laura A. Neff. Our ministry was built on the truth of God’s love. It doesn’t conform to society’s wishes. This ministry shares the Word of God, the Spirit of Christ Jesus. Those who know me well will recognize that there are definitive differences in the creation of every sermon from this point forward. It is God’s will that has brought this to be. We wish only that God’s truth will be shared within His words as brought to us by the Spirit as it fills my heart, mind, and soul to be shared with my hands, but with His words alone.

Sermon:  Good afternoon. Today’s inspiration came very late last evening after getting something finished we had waited a long time to manage. In that work managed we have realized there is a good reason we waited, in many, many ways. When providence comes to those who wait, it is worthy of celebration. With that, let’s seek out the times we celebrate, and how often we should do so with Christ Jesus as our guide and God waiting for us. So what should we celebrate? Well, many in Scripture celebrated His gifts to each and every one. Now there are several types of gifts. There are the gifts of grace, life, and respect. One of these gifts is spoken about in today’s gift of the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 2:4 KJV – God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?
So what are the gifts of God? Faith, hope, charity, humility, peace, wisdom, knowledge, and all of those equal love. They sound so very simple, and yet they mean so much. These are the gifts that we often forget exist. So many times there are troubles that eclipse the strength of these very virtues, gifts of God.
Hebrews 11:4 KJV – By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
Notice, Abel, regardless that he died as a result of jealousy and rage, is still, even to the Apostles of Christ, God, and Christ Himself considered a righteous gift of God, for God, and even by God. There are several who are thought of in this respect. The reason for choosing Abel is a simple one. He was the first to die for reasons of jealousy. You remember those seven terrible sins, vanity, envy, lust, enmity, wrath, shame, and doubt would be in that list. Notice they are the absolute opposite of the gifts of God’s unconditional love. This is one thing both God and Jesus worked toward, teaching us the difference, and the ones that would be better for our hearts, bodies, minds, and spirits. Signs and wonders, miracles great and small, these are the gifts God brings us. Notice, all of them are gifts of love. Now that’s something to think about as we pray in the prayer that Jesus brought us.
Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13 KJV)

Sermon: Good afternoon. Today’s inspiration came due to a verse found in my email. It is a familiar verse, one of the Beatitudes found in the gospel of Matthew. This particular verse relates to one in Hebrews and that will be included. The first of those verses would be here.

Matthew 5:9 KJV – Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Peacemakers, there are a lot of views for these types of men and women, even children. Yes, I said even children. What does it take to be a peacemaker? Listening, hearing, understanding, and wisdom are just part of the needs for being a peacemaker. We have to be willing to first listen, then hear, then understand what each side would be talking about, even fighting about, before sharing wisdom within the argument. It isn’t easy to be a peacemaker. Many are often caught in the crossfire. Here is another view of peacemaking.
Hebrews 12:14 KJV – Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord:
Now, quite a few years back there was a movie named Pay It Forward. The movie was based on a true story. A young boy with his classmates was instructed to find a way to make a difference in the world. Well, he did, in the ideal of pay it forward. One person helped another in some way. Then that person who was given that gift would then pay it forward to the next. That continued until it came all the way back to the boy. The young man did the one thing no one would expect. He gave his life to save two others from their anger, their fear. When the two boys realized what had happened as a result of their anger, they did everything to help save the young man’s life.
Jesus taught. He went everywhere, even where some would say angels feared to tread. Yes, He went to talk to Satan himself, and put his point across. You see, Jesus was willing to prove His point with the moneychangers, the ones who were ready to stone Mary Magdalene, and so many others. He did so, and yet, even when they tried, convicted, and crucified Him he begged God to forgive them for not knowing what they were doing. What is it like to be willing to go to those kinds of lengths as a peacemaker? When one does so they don’t have to be a minister, or anyone of power. They can be anyone, like that young man who spent his last year on earth paying it forward. Jesus died so that the Apostles and others could pay it forward, bringing His love, His path, His wisdom to those who would follow after them. In many ways He is, as He was, successful. Now, that’s something to think about as we pray in the prayer that Jesus brought us.

Sermon:  Good afternoon. Today’s inspiration came as a result of the birth of a son, my son, seventeen years ago yesterday. He was born just prior to my date of birth, which would be today. Well, we’re going to share the ideal of the firstborn. Granted, my son is hardly my first born, however, he is the first to be born anywhere near my husband or my own birthdays. So today we are going to look at the birth of the firstborn and the last born, both male and female. Let us begin here.
I Samuel 14:49 KJV – Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchisua: and the names of his two daughters were these; the name of the firstborn was Merab, and the name of the younger was Michal.
For the moment we will focus on the firstborn daughter. We will get into the firstborn sons, of which there are many, in a future sermon. In my family there are many children. I am the eldest child, one of six daughters and three sons for my parents. The youngest of the six daughters would no longer be with us here save in spirit. It is difficult, sometimes, to be the eldest. I am always the one most would come to first for advice, whether it is from my siblings, or even the eldest of my three brothers. I have been the shoulder to cry on, the one to just sit and listen, and the one to bring answers, or even opinions when they are asked for.

I am also the first to be looked at for those times when things go wrong. Why is that? Well, the answer is simple. We as the eldest are supposed to be the role models for those younger than we are. This, regardless of the fact that we are always learning, the wisdom from just being alive longer than those siblings would provide them knowledge, understanding, and more in the way life works. This includes the good and the bad. We do so because we want to prevent those who are part of our family the sorrows and more involved in what we grew up with as the firstborn. Now, we’re going to focus on the eldest daughter, Merab, in the two verses that remain. Those can be found further in the scroll of I Samuel here.
I Samuel 18:17-19 KJV – Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life or my father’s family in Israel that I should be son-in-law to the king?
But it came to pass at the time when Merab, Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite to wife.
I am certain everyone would wonder why this is. Well, David chose the younger over the elder. The younger daughter, Michal had fallen in love with David, as he had done with her. So, Merab was given to Adriel the Meholathite to wife. There is nothing mentioned as to how her life with her husband was like. It is only known, according to Scripture, what life was like for Michal and David. The question is this: was Merab able to love her husband as her sister loved David? Again, nothing is known. Why is it that there are those who are the eldest that share no thoughts or whatever in the realm of love as husband and wife? This especially when it comes to a pair of sisters who are, eldest to youngest, turned topsy-turvy.
Look at this, Merab is given to Adriel to wife, and this is after her betrothal to David. In other words, Saul believed that Merab would be better off with Adriel. There is an interesting ideal. Perhaps he saw more love between those two than he saw between Merab and David. Perhaps he realized that Michal loved him with her whole heart and he couldn’t deny that fact.
This shows that Saul thought about the well-being, the happiness, and the love his firstborn daughter as much as the man he truly wanted to be his son-in-law, David. The fact that he saw the way each of his daughters reacted to David and the thought of marriage proved to him that love is the guiding force, and would bring good results. Sometimes it is the unexpected in regard to the eldest, the firstborn that brings better understanding not just to a parent, but to that firstborn themselves. In fact, it would be considered for both male and female. Now, that’s something to think about as we pray in the prayer that Jesus brought us.
