The Covenant of Hope of the Children of God

Just before Moses gave the Ten Commandments, he made this statement about the covenant God made with us.

Deuteronomy 5:3

King James Version (KJV)
3 The Lord made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

And what was this covenant that God made with us his children?

Deuteronomy 5:28-29

King James Version (KJV)
28 And the Lord heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the Lord said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.
29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

It was a covenant of hope that all might be well with His children. His children are those who have faith in Him and keep His commandments. He expects us to act in a certain way if we would be called His children. Even in the Old Testament God taught us to love one another and to work for peace.

Jeremiah 29:11

King James Version (KJV)
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

1 John 3:1

King James Version (KJV)
3 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

We may occasionally commit sins for which we repent, still, as children of God, our sins are forgiven.

1 John 3:4-9

King James Version (KJV)
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

“Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.”

These are some powerful words. If we love God and have accepted Christ as our savior and try to keep his commandments to good to our fellow man, we cannot sin because our sins are forgiven through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection where he took the keys to hell.

  1. 1 Corinthians 6:12
    King James Version (KJV)
12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

This is another view of the same inspiration that brought Elder Cal the sermon. He wished to include it, if nowhere else, here in the comments. God be with you always.
